Transformational leaders

I have been thinking about transformational leadership and how rare this type of leadership is.

Transformational leaders are leaders that can be characterised by their charismatic and inspirational nature, demonstrating an ability to connect with individuals and create excitement about intellectual challenges in an organisations future. A transformational leader produces cognisance and employee buy-in of the goals and mission of the organisation; they motivate employees to look beyond their interests for the greater benefit of the organisation.(Bass 1990).

I have come across two individuals in my 36-year career who fit this description.

How many transformational leaders have you come across in your career and did they motivate you to look beyond your interests for the greater benefit of the organisation or society?
